New Poster

Finally one of my birthday presents made it up the wall (right in the middle of the sleeping/working room)… well okay it has been there for some days now, but I only managed to express my happyness using this blog now!
It was pain in the a to actually get hold of the poster since it’s only sold in the states and the international support sort of doesn’t exist…
anyhow… isn’t it beautiful?!

New apartment

Yes, it has been a while… some strange long silence in the blog!
But now I am almost back…

Today we handed over our old apartment and I am still busy setting up the new one… but there’s some progress…

Due to the moving my internet connection was down for a while and is still not up by now… have to wait till Friday, dammit… I admit, I am a junky…

Now I am sitting in the NewZealandCafe close to our new home using the free WLAN connection to at least do this post… not that you think this blog is dead…

Well… hopefully I’ll be back on Friday, when my internet is back up…
btw I am starting to teach by Friday as well… looking forward to it…

Cheers
Sascha

Decision

After treading water for a too long time, I finally made up my mind and came to a decision concerning my (near) future! I guess it probably was the hardest I ever had to take.

Not to put you on the rack for too long…
its not Copenhagen,
its not Paris,
its not Freiburg,
its BERLIN!

Right! I’m gonna stay in Berlin for (at least) the next three years! It was a tough decision and took a while to be made.
Anyway… now I’m gonna do my Ph.D. at Humboldt-University of Berlin and DESY Deutsches Elektronen-Synchrotron in Zeuthen.
It will be about top-quark physics and data-quality monitoring using the higher-level-trigger of ATLAS.

And since this is not enough!
I’m also moving, since we already cancelled our old apartment, due to the fact that I would end up in Freiburg according to the original plan.
The new apartment, located in Berlin-Friedrichshain, will of course be opened with a little house-warming party… I’ll give more details!

CERN > Freiburg > Wuppertal > Berlin

The way back from the glaciers of the French alps we (Heike and me) started with an enjoyable night on the floor of Esbens CERN hostel room (thanx again) … as it turned out this was not the right way to recover after a day of snowboarding …

The next step on the journey was Freiburg where we were visiting some friends of mine I met at a summer university this year …
After dropping of Heike at the train-station (she had to go back to Berlin) I enjoyed another day in Freiburg and continued my journey …

The last stop before Berlin was the beautiful city of Wuppertal…
Climbing some hills, eating cookies, visiting the university built in the adorable style of the 70s and of course taking the “Schwebebahn Wuppertal” … this thing is over 100 years old! And for all you train-geeks here’s a little video
