Time to move … and sponsor …

Time to move has been my motto for the past couple of weeks and will most likely continue to be so for a few more weeks to come. Most things are in fact already arranged for and just need to be done now … though the latter is usually the harder part.

Anyways, tomorrow will be my last day in Copenhagen! At least for as long as I am currently planing ahead.
Btw. thanks to everyone helping us with the move!

As for our previous two relocations and as kind of an evolving tradition, we are currently running another round of furniture sponsoring for our new apartment. So please consider becoming a sponsor to help us sustain a nice home for our stuff ;)

You can find all the details on my dedicated sponsoring page.

Fitted kitchen

There’s a first time for everything … today, for the first time, I had the pleasure to buy a fitted kitchen. Well pleasure is maybe exaggerated, excitement might fit better. The design phase had its ups and downs, the shopping part was easy, the paying was tough, currently I am simply waiting … and that’s boring in a empty apartment. If all works out (and let’s hope it does), I should have all parts in my apartment today and someone put them together on Wednesday morning (together with the guy hooking me up to the internet).

And by the way, if you are wondering what to do about our birthdays … we are restarting our furniture sponsorship programme ;)

[Update 06.04.14] In fact I got everything except the door handles :|

Fun(ny) fact about apartments

In fact it’s actually a sad fact to some extend, but anyways.

It’s been a while since I’ve been looking for apartments and I though Copenhagen was the extreme case I’d never have to face again.  So much for what I was thinking … back in reality I found myself looking for apartments in Munich. While the apartment we have in Copenhagen (as nice as it is) already put quite some weight on my wallet, the ones available (not necessary to us particularly, but general spoken) in Munich can yet trump the current situation.

PlanMunich

Besides the whole pricing issue, there is a fun(ny) difference in style of apartments between Copenhagen and Munich. While it was not too easy to find an apartment in Copenhagen that had a bathroom that could fit two people at the same time or where you could take a shower that does not cover the whole room in water, this seems extremely easy in Munich. on the contrary I am slowly getting annoyed by the fact that seemingly all the apartment (even small ones) in Munich have in fact a second bathroom, some of the even two bath tubs. I appreciate the luxury, but do not exactly see the need why a three-room apartment for a couple or small family should waste spend precious and expensive square meters on a second shower/toilet.

Other countries, other customs. I guess …

btw. if you want to comment (and you are welcome), you should ask for a new account on the page

O’zapft is

After spending yet another great time in the beautiful city of Copenhagen, the time has come to say good bye. There have been a few ideas, even fewer possibilities and finally only one decision. And … tada, the next step in my/our life will be the capital of Bavaria, Munich.

The LMU Munich has kindly offered me a position as a lecturer (Akademischer Rat) working on the ATLAS Experiment for the next three years (with the option of six years in total), which I just accepted.

So if all the bureaucracy doesn’t kill me/us on the way and we manage to find a place to stay in time, we’ll be in town by the 1st of April 2014.

When I am done rearranging my web site, the Copenhagen Guest Couch will (hopefully) be transformed into a Munich Guest Couch, of course.
