Winner

Yeah… like every year there has been a t-shirt design competition for the summer student t-shirt… and guess what!? I won the competition (at least for the front)… CELEBRATION!

CERN talk

Yeah… I’m still alive… and it wasn’t as bad as I expected… Today I had my first “real” talk in the ATLAS InnerDetector CombinedTestBeam meeting at 40-SS-D01 CERN. Which lasted approx. four hours and I was second last… yo! It was actually kind of good, even though I was fr**king nervous. The major players seemed to like it… somehow!
Here are the transparencies if someone is keen on looking at them… you nerds!

Shaun and The Insane Objects

Today I finally made it to the KiwiLab to inspect the awesome work of one of my SummerStudent fellows… “The Insane Object”.
He (Shaun from New Zealand) made the inpossible possible: talking to his power supplies!
And not just that… he even made a “simulation” of The Final War.
I actually have to admit that this is not the only thing he’s doing in his lab (at least that’s what he says). He claims to do some proper work in addition.

btw
kudos Shaun

Tunnels, detectors and bad taste

Finally I got to see some of the cooler things at CERN. Going down the 100m shaft to the LHCb/Delphi detectors, walking through the myon beam tunnel of the COMPASS experiment and seeing this experiment itself, actually gave some touch of reality to the quite theoretical standard model lectures of the last days… (pictures can be found in the gallery). And again it was time for Charly’s on Tuesday (like every week) and another KP (a kitchen parade not held in a kitchen but in a restaurant) called “The Bad Taste Party”… look a the pix and explain it yourself. To add another attraction to the SummerSchool Programm I announced a SKAT (a german card game) competition including teaching lessons for all the newbies that wanna learn the game and join the tournament… I already got my Kiwi-padawan in the game (greetz to Shaun)…yeah!

Another week in heaven

After my sister left I started the week with a meeting together with my supervisor from Copenhagen University, who had the great idea to put me on the speakers list for a meeting next friday… yeeha. Anyway… so I had to get started with my stuff, which actually worked out after some difficulties. It’s still not enough for a presentation but I’ll figure out…
The weekend was kind of calm… I just spent most of the time sitting around in the sun, went to pubs, enjoyed a firealarm, got stopped by the police (with their hands on their guns…scary french), saw the “Fantastic Four” (which is actually not that fantastic) in cinema and… I dunno. I actually also worked a bit… on a weekend (is that place making me nerdy?)
