Yeah… I’m still alive… and it wasn’t as bad as I expected… Today I had my first “real” talk in the ATLAS InnerDetector CombinedTestBeam meeting at 40-SS-D01 CERN. Which lasted approx. four hours and I was second last… yo! It was actually kind of good, even though I was fr**king nervous. The major players seemed to like it… somehow!
Here are the transparencies if someone is keen on looking at them… you nerds!
The one
This is a short entry just for “The One”. The sun that lightens my life for seven years now… I love you!
Shy mountain and olympic city
This weekend we made a trip to Chamonix (FR) to visit the beautiful valley and the Big Old Mont Blanc. Unfortunately this big old guy is a little shy, so we’re not hundred per cent sure whether we saw him or not… cause he was hiding in a big fat cloud. Bast…! Anyway!
We probably had the highest funny french lunch break including a Skat session ever done!? Sitting at the Aiguille du Midi at 3842m… yeah, rock on! Spending half the day waiting for the big guy to show up an playing cards at this altitude we all suffered quite a bit…
On sunday I went to the olympic city of Lausanne, at the north shore of the lake, enjoying some more oxygen filled air down at the “beach”… which was actually no beach, but anyway!
Shaun and The Insane Objects
Today I finally made it to the KiwiLab to inspect the awesome work of one of my SummerStudent fellows… “The Insane Object”.
He (Shaun from New Zealand) made the inpossible possible: talking to his power supplies!
And not just that… he even made a “simulation” of The Final War.
I actually have to admit that this is not the only thing he’s doing in his lab (at least that’s what he says). He claims to do some proper work in addition.
btw
kudos Shaun
Am I really a physicist?
One duty of a good experimental physicist is to observe…
But some of my last observations brought up the following question:
“Am I really a physicist?”
To explain this, let me point out my observations…
Following the lectures and looking at some of the students and teachers from all around the world I realized an uncommonly high number of people being left-handed and/or colour-blind???
Since I’m non of it… hmm I don’t know!
The only thing that made me stop quitting the job was the fact that actually most of them are theoreticians… which is something I try to avoid!
So let’s be optimistic and do some work… cu
