Experimentarium – Body Worlds

This week I had an old friend (greetz Shaun) staying at our Copenhagen Guest Couch. As the weather has been kinda Copenhagen style and he has already been here back when I did my masters, we decided to go to one of the museums in town … the final choice turned out to be the Experimentarium, for which I had free tickets as a thank you for the tours I gave during the CERN exhibition earlier this year …

They currently had a Gunther von Hagens exhibition called Body World showing real plastinated bodies. Even though I knew most of it already from a previous exhibition in Berlin, it is still quite fascinating to see all the details …

Also the permanent exhibition, featuring all sorts of hands-on exhibits was very nice … and everything, though mainly meant for children, was explained in Danish, Swedish and English!

The only thing that left a slight bitter taste is the fact that a regular visit would cost an adult 22 Euros (children 14 Euros)!?!

Who the he** can afford that on a regular basis?

Smokey Joe got a place in the sun

To be slightly more specific: Smokey Joe got a place on our balcony, replacing its predecessor Electric Joe.
And to be fully specific: the new Joe is our new portable charcoal BBQ, from now on doing the grilling job on the balcony (in the new apartment we are actually allowed to use it there) and in the parks.
Hmm … I am looking forward to some serious BBQing with this guy …

Smokey Joe is a registered trademark of Weber (also source of the image).

Chocolate chicken stew and lots of cake

Even at lunch in the NBI canteen I learned something today … chocolate chicken stew is actually quite nice. Yes you read right, we had chocolate chicken stew in the institute canteen today!
After several year of suffering from and boycotting the DESY canteen in Zeuthen I rediscovered canteen food here Copenhagen. It’s no haute cuisine but it’s fairly good food, which is for Danish standards and compared to DESY not too expensive …

Besides that we had “cake day” at the institute as well … meaning, the whole institute met under the nice magnolia tree in front of our building and ate cake that various people brought … brownies, chocolate, blueberry and marzipan cake … had the all … hmmm

Our special May 1st

Today Heike and me had our first anniversary as a married couple.

After an easy Sunday morning start, we drove up the eastern coast of Sealand and spent the whole day, including brunch and coffee, at the Louisiana Museum of Modern Art. They had a very nice lunch buffet and besides the common exhibitions a special on Pablo Picasso (Peace and Freedom) and on David Hockney (Me Draw on iPad) amongst others. We finished the visit with muffins, brownies and some chillin’ by the beach.

All in all a beautiful day to celebrate a very nice first year … love you!

btw. thanks to all that sent mails/messages/letters!
