Yesterday I had a little meet and greet with Peter Jenni, the spokesman of the ATLAS experiment. He has given a sort of “understandable-for-everyone” talk in the Helmholtz Lectures Program at Humboldt-University of Berlin. Afterwards we’ve been invited to a little reception, where I had the chance to talk a bit to our btw. very nice spokesman about this and that … unfortunately no pictures have been made this evening :-(

CinéGlobe
Today I’ve been to the “Inertia”-session of the CinéGlobe short film festival in the “The Globe of Science and Innovation” at CERN. They had some very nice movies in the session, like “Moment de Gloire“, “EQUIPAJES“, “LA GUERRA” and “In memoriam“.
The Machine
Another time me and the machine, ATLAS! Its alwas a moving moment to see this masterpiece of physics engineering, especially for me doing all of the actual work in front of a computer and never really getting in touch with the hardware. You feel this certain satisfaction, when walking through the little radiation protection tunnel with a small blue door at the end to then enter the huge canvern, housing the now almost as huge ATLAS detector. Simply one of the coolest things ever…
LHCb & Dvorak & Betting Game
Today I had a tour of the LHCb detector and the associated electronics and computing parts (thanks to Gareth). Not quite as big as ATLAS but still very impressive!
I’ll put some more pictures in the gallery…
In the evening I followed the invitation of the CERN Concerts Club and listened to some Dvorak, Gershwin and Mersson music in the CERN main auditorium.
And last but not least … after some complains, the betting game on my webpage has finally got a new and more reasonable mode for evaluating rugby games ;-)
Early Flight
Another time at CERN and always a pleasure! I had to take the early flight leaving at 6h20. Which was kind of a pain in the a**, but I got a bit rewarded by the view on the sunrise though.
Over the weekend I am staying at Troels’ place …
