ATLAS SUSY workshop and a bit of spare time in Brighton last week. Unfortunately the weather was best on the days of the workshop and real British during my last day.
Anyways … workshop and hotel where nice, I found two caches and spotted some number plates ;)

Unconventional signatures and Exotic Higgs
Today I got a warm welcome to a new job within ATLAS. After one year as co-convener of the ATLAS SUSY subgroup for R-parity violating and long-lived signatures, which ends today, I’ll have the pleasure to be co-convener of the ATLAS Exotics subgroup for Unconventional signatures and Exotic Higgs searches for one year starting tomorrow.
Once again, it’s an exiting time as in 2016 we might get up to ten times the data we had in 2015. I’m very much looking forward :)
Reawakening for more Run-2 data
After a great year 2015 and the usual winter break, the LHC is back up and produced the first beam splash events in the ATLAS detector last week. Only a couple of weeks/days and we’ll have stable beams and physics data again … find out more here.
Eleven years at CERN
Time for a small anniversary celebration … my CERN user account was created exactly eleven years ago :)
Pancake throwing
Ever thought about the physics of pancake throwing? No?!
Apparently some people did and came up with an ‘interesting’ formula.
Last week I was contacted by a TV production company that wanted to make short clip about some formula on pancake throwing they found on the net and needed some information / check on.
Dr. Mark J. Hadley of Warwick University has derived a simple equation, that might or might not be a reasonable approximation.
It lacks a few details, though some are discussed, and completely ignores the shape of the pan, but then again …
Unfortunately, I did not yet find out when and where the clip is to be shown on TV :(
Still, it was fun reading and physics :)
