ATLAS is celebrating its 25th anniversary this year and as of today we have a nice new font page on our web site and a dedicated ATLAS25 public web page, featuring a nice timeline of major milestones for ATLAS.

EPS HEP2017
After a one hour flight and an even longer boat trip from the airport to my hotel / the venue, I finally arrived in Venice yesterday. To be precise, it’s on Lido (long strip of land in the background above) and (sadly) it’s not for holidays, but this year’s EPS HEP conference, which started today.
Let’s see how it goes …
Happy Birthday
Higgs Boson
It’s been five years already since the announcement of the discovery of the final and most intriguing particle of the Standard Model – the Higgs Boson! I joined the official presentation/announcement remotely from the main auditorium of the ICHEP conference taking place in Melbourne at the time. It was quite the day … summed up nicely in a retrospective released by CERN just now.
And yes, the picture with Peter was taken about a year after the announcement, just after he’s been presented as Nobel laureate together with François Englert in 2013.
Want
Symmetry (Fermilab and SLAC) just published a great kids book on particle physics …
definitely on my want list now!
And we need a German version …
BYOPD @ MPP
Today I had another ‘Build Your Own Particle Detector’ event, for the first time at the Max Planck Institute for Physics in Munich. With about 50 participants to the contest and tons of chats within the seven-hour event, not a bad day ;)
All designs can be found on the BYOPD event page.
